What is weather normalization?

Weather normalization in the hotel industry is a process used to adjust and standardize performance metrics, such as energy consumption, to account for variations in weather conditions. This allows hotels to accurately compare their performance against the target.

What is its purpose?

Weather normalization in PMI GoGreen allows you to compare your current year against the base year that you have set, removing any discrepancies due to weather differences to see if you are reaching your targets. Energy data from the current year is adjusted based on weather conditions in the base year as set in Goal distribution tool. Weather normalization can be activated by reaching out to your PMI contact or Support.

How is the data weather-normalized?

The data is sent to Energy Data IO, an external company specializing in energy management and weather normalization. They make the calculations and send the data back to us, where it is uploaded into the cockpit.

 

Navigation and view options

  1. Weather normalization is only available in the GoGreen Energy learning cockpit.
  2. Select the ‘Learning’ tab to view Weather normalization.
  3. The Weather normalization feature can be toggled on or off, depending on your view preference.
  4. Select the month to view by using the date selector. The current month will be selected by default.
  5. If Weather normalization is active on the page, only consumption values will be shown, as Cost and Co2 are not included in weather normalization.

When Weather normalization is activated, all data visible on the screen has been weather normalized, including hourly consumption.

  1. In the Composition table, you can compare your energy actuals to the target set and see the Variance. By comparing your target to the base year, you can see how you are progressing regardless of if last month was extra cold, by simulating the same weather conditions in the base year.
  2. The Biggest misalignments graph is populated with data when Weather normalization is activated.

What does GG stand for?

In PMI “GG” stands for GoGreen. This initiative focuses on sustainability and environmental responsibility. The abbreviation “gg” is commonly used by users when referring to sustainability tools and features within the full PMI software suite called GoGreen.

Troubleshoot data in the Import Status view

Accessing the Import Status View:

  1. Navigate to the main menu and select Import Status.
  2. Choose your desired chain, property, status, and interface filters.
  3. The view will display detailed import information for the selected property.

Troubleshooting Missing Data:

  1. If data appears to be missing, use the search (magnifying glass) to drill down into the details.
  2. Compare the data received with what’s displayed in PMI.
  3. Check for potential issues like unmapped accounts or ignored figures.
  4. If discrepancies persist, consider performing a new import.

Correct, change, register or add consumption

To register consumption, use the 'Add consumption' button within the cockpit. This allows for the input of new consumption values easily. If needing to update an entry, simply input the new value; PMI will override the previous entry with the new one, ensuring the latest data is always reflected. However, note that imported values cannot be overwritten in this manner. For tracking food waste specifically, use the "Production" category to enter total food waste figures accurately.
