Objective

This guide shows you how to enter budget and forecast labor costs in PMI, depending on whether your property is set up to use rates or total labor cost.

 Requirements

– Access to the Budget and forecast module.
– Permission to edit labor cost data.
– Confirmation of which method your property uses: rates or total labor cost.
– Prepared data (average hourly rates or total cost figures, plus worked hours).

Estimated time to complete

2 minutes per department.

Steps

1. Confirm the labor cost method

1. Open the Labor cockpit.

2. Check the setting Total labor cost:

If the box is unticked, you are working in Rates mode. Enter average hourly rates in the steps below.

If the box is ticked, you are working in Total labor cost mode.

Enter total cost figures in the steps below.

2. Enter budget and forecast values

If using Rates:

1. Go to the Budget and forecast module.

2. Select the labor department and the period you want to update.

3. Enter the expected average rate in the Rate field.

4. Repeat the entry for each month you need to budget or forecast.

If using Total labor cost:

1. Go to the Budget and forecast module.

2. Select the labor department you want to update.

3. Enter the planned amount in the Total labor cost field.

4. Repeat the entry for each month you need to budget or forecast.

5. Review the implied rate, which PMI calculates automatically based on the planned hours.

3. Verify your entries

1. Return to the Labor cockpit.

2. Verify that the correct rate or total cost is shown.

3. Hover over the entry in rate section to confirm the implied rate looks reasonable.

Expected outcome

– Budget and forecast labor costs display correctly in the Labor cockpit.
– PMI automatically calculates and displays the implied rate (if applicable).
– Variances between budget and forecast can be reviewed.

Troubleshooting

– Can’t edit a rate or total cost? Confirm if the period is locked.
– Numbers don’t look right? Check that the hours are correct.
– Rate seems off? Confirm whether your property is in Rates or Total labor cost mode.
