What are “Hygiene factors” in the PMI adoption index?

How Can We Improve This Article?

In the PMI Index, hygiene factors are foundational tasks that ensure operational routines are being followed. They do not carry any score weight, except for the Rooms Management category.

 Where do hygiene factors appear?

  • They are shown in red in the PMI Index view
  • They typically indicate that a routine or baseline task has not been completed
  • Examples include:
    • No forecast submitted
    • Missing actuals
    • Outdated productivity target
    • Rooms Management fields not updated (this does affect the index score)

What do they mean?

  • They do not affect the PMI Index score directly — unless they relate to Rooms management
  • They are designed to prompt users to take action and keep key routines in check
  • Think of them as reminder flags to maintain healthy data and forecasting hygiene

Special case: Rooms management

  • Hygiene factors under this category do contribute to the score
  • That’s because missing or incorrect Rooms data can directly impact forecasting accuracy

Best Practice

  • Use the red flags as a guide to close routine gaps — even if they don’t impact your score
  • Regularly check the PMI Index to ensure all key routines (forecasts, targets, actuals) are up to date
  • Prioritize fixing any red marks in Rooms management, as these will affect your overall adoption score
