Planning assumptions is the new tool for managing the values used in budget and forecast calculations. It replaces the existing Constant experience and adds new ways to organize and manage assumptions.

Why is this useful?

  • Manage related assumptions together in groups.
  • Use historical actuals to help set assumption values.
  • Quickly populate multiple months with Fast-fill.
  • View actuals and compare them with budget or forecast.
  • Manage assumptions at different levels of the property hierarchy.

What has changed?

  • Assumption groups allow related assumptions to be managed together, including percentages that should add up to 100%.
  • Child assumptions can be linked to specific departments and accounts to determine how actuals are displayed.
  • Fast-fill provides several ways to populate planning months, including historical patterns and values from P&L formulas.
  • Planning assumptions has its own dedicated grid for managing assumptions and viewing actuals, forecasts, and comparisons.

What happens to existing Constants?

Existing Constants and Planning assumptions are linked, so you do not need to recreate your existing assumptions.

When you switch to Planning assumptions, your existing assumptions are available in the new tool. You can also continue to view them in Constants.

Note: The Constant module does not display the group structure. Child assumptions that belong to a group are shown as individual assumptions in Constant.
